AusTrakka update #1
Upon its endorsement by the SARS-CoV-2 Expert Reference Panel (ERP) as the genomic data sharing platform for Australia during the COVID-19 pandemic, AusTrakka has rapidly progressed its development and formalisation of processes to meet the urgent demand for a safe and secure way to share sequence data and conduct genomic analysis.
Within weeks of its deployment, AusTrakka identified its first inter-jurisdictional transmission of SARS-CoV-2 based on genomic analysis of sequence data uploaded onto the platform.
An update on the current status of the platform is as follows:
Near finalisation of the data governance, privacy and security structure.
User ‘roles’ have been assigned and accessed by a public health laboratory representative in every state and territory to test and feedback to the AusTrakka Development and Operations team.
The metadata pro forma based on PHA4GE specification has been endorsed by the ERP. This will allow the data to easily translate from GISAID/NCBI to AusTrakka and vice versa.
Completion of a test deployment of the application on Microsoft Azure Cloud
Commencement of various security testing and development of the best deployment strategy to meet security and privacy requirements.

AusTrakka has been deployed and is already assisting with the identification of inter-jurisdictional transmission of SARS-CoV-2.
